Control Rig and Constraints

Does anyone have issues constraining (Parent, Point or Orient) from a Control Rig? Where something on the Control Rig (Left Wrist) follows something on the Character Rig (Hand_R). Whenever I use a constraint, the geo blows up; but when I take the constraint off, the geo goes back to normal.

I've tried constraining the Control Rig to itself: Left Wrist follow (Constrain Parent) Right wrist, but that doesn't work either. The Left Wrist just remains in world space by itself.

If there's any kind of solution using Constraints with a Control Rig please let me know.

Thanks in advance 🙂

Hello @Anonymous,

Thank you for posting to the Area Forums.

I think the issue that you are experiencing could possibly be related to an order of operations like the skinning happening prior to the constraint.

It is also possible that you may need to use Maintain Offset so check your constraint settings to see if Maintain Offset is disabled.

It would be great to see a file that I could test on my end for troubleshooting.

Hope the information I provided is helpful.

Cheers,

Hi @santd,

I've tried Maintain Offset, but that didn't seem to work; unless I did it wrong.

As for order of operations, I'm not sure how I would go about doing that :þ

I've attached my Test scene, if you'd like to troubleshoot on your end 🙂

What I'm trying to do is have RobotMannequin_Ctrl:LeftWristEffector (found in display layers as: HIK_CTRL_Wrist_L) follow hand_r (found in display layers as: Joint_Hand_R). You'll notice, once you constrain these two items the geometry will blow up.

I've also tried constraining the Control Rig's IK Ctrls:
     RobotMannequin_Ctrl:LeftWristEffector > RobotMannequin_Ctrl:RightWristEffector
But for some reason the Control Rig's IK Ctrls don't follow each other.

Lastly, I've tried constraining RobotMannequin_Ctrl:LeftWristEffector to the Control Rig's FK joint RobotMannequin_Ctrl:RightHand. This kinda follows sometimes, but sometimes does not? I'm confused by that one.

Thanks for your help 🙂
