You can only show the manipulator during playback. if you are recording ( which no one really does)
Why do you want to interact with the object during playback? You won't be able to do anything anyway.. as the animation will be controlling the object. (moving it would do nothing)
you can show local rotation axis , or pivots if you want to see them during playback. but you can't interact with them
