tube and pipe question maybe ilogic

hi all.

i am using tube and pipe for a lot of my work and my purchasing department take all my cut lengths and add them up to get how many lengths of lipe they need to buy

example is i have 3 lengths

4m, 4m and 3m

total is 11m

my pipe comes in 6m lengths so purchasing would buy 2 in but this is not suitable i need 3 sections

i need to put something together to give me 3 as my total length ( this is a very small example in my working life each model has over 200 pipes from 100mm to 6000mm lengths and buying the correct amount is very important.

does anyone know of a good startinv point

my thoughts were to get each length in code and try to add them to the first "pipe length". if it when over total length it would move to the next one so on. so i dont waste any pipe section

any would be greatful

thanks
