Forming operation on a sheetmetal part

I am working with a sheetmetal part, and I want to have material diplaced as in a forming operation. The displacement will be caused by a tool of a particular form, stored as an ifeature. Is this type of operation supported? How can this be done using the API? Is there another approach which could be used here?

These types of operations are allowed as long as they don't cross over a
bend. When flattening a part they're just transferred to the flat in their
3D state. The round and square emboss punch tool examples delivered with
Inventor demonstrate these types of operations. The API supports the
placement of both iFeatures and punch tools. Punch tools are just a
variation of iFeatures.

In our case, the form will mostly be outside a bend, but some part of may cross over the edge of the bend. Will this work? Is there any work-around for this case?

The best way to know what will and won't work is to try it, but I think
flattening of the part will fail if these types of features are part of the
bend.
