Create Simplify Part Substitute

Hello,

In IV 2013 I could make easy  with a Macro a Shrinkwrap substitute (see attachment). This Shinkwrap could we edit easy with some Simplify options (on part level) for example Fill Voids. Now in IV 2014 it's not possible anymore, with a Shrnkwrap part, only with a simplify part. So I would build a macro, I will make a Simplified substitute level.  So It will be great if the Macro can make a substitute level with in it a Simflied part.

Is this possible? And how can I make this, or edit the existed one?

Regards,

Jorn

Hi,

I do not hear any change with the relevant APIs. I also gave it a test on a simple assembly. It works well.

Could you clarify what exactly problem is? any failure?any error message? any incorrect result?

If you meant by a problem on specific files, please provide a test copy.

Hello,

Yes, it's works fine to make a Shrinkwrap substitute. But this Shrinkwrap we can't edit with the Simplify features (Environment => Recognize Revit Features => Simplify features). So if you create a Simplified Part it works fine, you can use till example Fill Voids. So I will make a Simplified substitute level. So It will be great if the Macro can make a substitute level with in it a Simflied part.

I've maked a video of this all. I want to attached this, but the original file is too big for it (211Mb). After that I make a rar file, but this I can't attached on this answer. Maybe I can email it to you, if you need it.

I hope it's a little bit clearer now.

Regards,

Jorn

Hi Jorn,

Sorry for late response.

I gave a test after the macro. I opened the substitute the macro produced. It seems I can edit it in (Environment => Recognize Revit Features => Simplify features). What I tested with is a simple part (see attached figs). It is even nothing with Revit. So maybe this is not a good sample.

yes, the video will be helpful for me the understand the problem. Because of the size limitation, please upload the video to some web driver and share the link. Thank you! If you would like to share in private, please let me know.

Hi Jorn,

thanks for the video. I can see it now.

it looks to me the scenarios of ‘non-working’ and ‘working’ you tested with are different. For ‘non-working’, you opened the substitute part in-place, while for ‘working’, you opened the part explicitly. At my side, for any part in an assembly, the ‘Recognize Revit Feature’ is disable if I opened the part in-place.

I maybe missed something, but I’d firstly like to check have you tried to open the substitute part (produced by macro) explicitly?

Hi Xiadong,

You're right. That's the solution. If I open the substitute part, and than you can use the simplify features.

Life is so simple.

But is it than a wish, to edit a part in-place with the simplify features?

Hi,

glad to know it can also work by explicitly opening the part.

As to edit a part in-place, I am not sure this is as designed, or an issue. So I logged it#1513800
