Auto generation of sequential number for part number.

Good day,

Still busy creating a standard template to be used in our design office. One of the issues I am running into is to try and standardize any entry as much as possible, using dropdowns or lists.  Most of this I have been able to sort out and link this to a Form driven in the background with a number of Rules to give me the information we want in our iProperties.

However, the one last bugbear I have is my Part Number - our part number consists of a number of fields that describes a level in the assembly down to single part level.  I have been able to get the descriptor part done to my satisfaction, but now I need to generate a sequential 4 digit number.  I can see that somewhere there needs to be a database to ensure the numbers stay unique and preferably linked to the descriptors that makes up the rest of the part number.

All the Googled answers create very complex iLogic rules and spreadsheets that does not really answer my requirements.  Anyone that has a simplistic approach to this please?  A third party app will also do, especially if I can specify some of the fields and if the result is written back to the Part Number iProperty.  I have extremely basic skills in iLogic rules, sort of hunt and wonder level.

Any help from Autodesk themselves maybe?

Attached is a screenshot of the Form I am developing...it might give you an idea of what I am trying to achieve.  Currently the Seq Number is entered manually in the form itself, but it also exists as a Parameter (Text) and as a Custom Property.

I dont know if this can work for you, but this simple code for Ilogic, was fantastic. I used it to automate all the filenaming system. Im still having issues modifying the make components section.

The downside is that reading excel files can take a while.

Hello, reading your question i think we have a solution with a Numbering app we will be launching this week. I was wondering if you would be interested in testing it? The app is capable of renaming a lot of properties, numbering parts and assemblies and many more things.

I could give it a go with intentor 2019.

I already developed an add-in that automatically renames everything in inventor based on the parameters that I give it in the tools menu at the start. Such as defining an index or project or just blank.

I does it in derived components and everything I could possible found included frame generated components. and also populated names based on the explorer with the given descriptions of the parts, pretty cool. If you're interested let me know.
