Hello

I working alot with sheetmetal products and in my IDW file I allways placing an "Flat pattern" view.

The problem for me is that the workers in the machine shop can't work with this IDW format.

The machines i talking about is punching machines like Trumpf and Amada etc, etc.....Even modern laser machines cant read IDW files.

These machines need DXF or DWG format for importing into their "Nesting" program

Like this one. http://www.jetcam.com/expert_punching.htm

Ok so now I manually do "Save as" DXF everytime I do an IDW files.

This is not good and several times we have missed updates because I done minor changes in a parts and missed saving to DXF.

Is there a way to make a "Save" button that both saves an IDW and DXF file at the same time?

I have tried to only work with Inventor DWG but the Nesting program can't read that either.

Hi,

There are multiple ways to do that. Probably the easiest one is to write a VBA function and hook it up to a button.

You can use DataIO for the DXF export: http://adndevblog.typepad.com/manufacturing/2012/05/exporting-flat-pattern-as-dwgdxf.html
