Replace Component with Derived Parts

I'm about to start working on a script to automate replacing a component part file with derived part files based on view representations, and wanted to know if anyone had something similar that they would like to share.

We use multi-solid parts for cabinet construction which works great with our nesting program [Router-SIM].  The program distinguishes different thicknesses of the same material well enough, but some cabinets require using specialty plywood [Custom veneers, custom sizes, oversized sheet goods].  I've been manually setting up view representations, which doesn't take long, and creating derived part linked to those view representations, which is just tedious, in order to lighten the burden on our CNC programming team.

I plan to write the script to follow this work flow:

click on a cabinet to replace

choose between all view reps [generally at least 2 different reps for 2 different part files]

remove the parent part from the assembly

create and place new derived parts into assembly [no constraints needed as we place our CNC work into a "bucket" assembly separate from the main assembly]

Open each of the derived parts to run an existing rule that matches solid names to the original

As a side note: I plan to modify this code in the future to allow creation of derived parts by selecting solid bodies or view reps to broaden its utility.
