Questions related to Content Center

Hey guys!

Well, I have some basic questions about Content Center.

In the company we have installed Vault, but we have only one person working in Inventor, so we don't actually use Vault for at the moment, maybe in the future.

So because of that we have Desktop Content Center installed on one machine. We have created our own library of standard components. My questions is really stupid maybe, but I would like to know where Content Center files are located? We would like to run nackups on these.

It is because I am pretty confused of their location. In one place it says that all the files are stored in one place, but that place is actually used for storing once opened files from Content Center. I would like to know where the whole library database file is lcoated... so we can back it all up?

Well, I know the location of the files ... 
C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\Inventor 2014\Content Center\Libraries\

But I am wondering if I jsut copy IDCL file- is it possible if something bad happens and we will have to re-install Inventor or system completely- will we be able to restore the files by jsut placing IDCL file back to the correct library? or there is some kind of a tool for doing that to attach this library?

P.S. it is Desktop Content Center, thus not using ADMS console for backing up and attaching libraries ...

Hi,

you would only need to backup the user defined library, that´s where your customized content exist if you use Inventor Desktop libraries.

Of course you can make a backup of this database by just copying the database file. Inventor should be closed while you´re doing the backup.

Now you could choose to have this database on a network storage where every user can access the database.

That makes maintenance a lot easier then having to do this for every workplace.

Alrighty, then i will be just copying this file. I was just wondering- there is no Attaching process required? So when i just paste the file to the library folder Inventor will detect library file automatically or I should run somekind of a attaching function?

You have to add the library to your project which is kind of an attachement. It won´t recognize a new library by default or let´s say import to your active project. But the process is as simple as I´ve described it. Copy into target folder and attach to project and you´re good to go.

If you want to make a backup just make sure Inventor is not running so no access to the database is possible.
