Parts only and structured BOM in one drawing

I have an assembly made up of four sub-assemblies.

In the drawing I need two BOM's, a "Structured" one showing Sub-Assemblies only and a "Parts Only" one showing all of the parts.

The drawing I've created contains several sheets.

On the first sheet I have a "Structured" BOM showing only the four sub-assemblies in it.

On another sheet I have a "Parts Only" BOM showing every single part.

I created the second BOM by creating a separate drawing of the same Assembly, inserting a "Parts Only" BOM and then copy and pasting it into the first drawing.

Now on my drawing on some sheets, when I balloon, it uses the Item Number from the "Structured BOM on other sheets it uses the Item Number from the "Parts Only" BOM. It doesn't follow any logic and I can't fix it.

What controls which BOM each sheet pulls its Item Number balloon from?

Is there a way to change which BOM the balloon leaders pull their number from?

Maybe this needs to be done with iLogic?

Hi,

When u balloon in any sheet it will take first placed bom item numbers only. So in your case instead of copying parts item sheet in to assembly sheet try to copy assembly sheet and paste it into part sheet. So part sheet balloon will be the primary bom. so whenever u balloon parts it wil show its item no. instead of assembly no. Hope this helps. Can't you use structured legacy bom. Just think of it.

I don't understand what you mean by use Structured Legacy BOM?

I do not know how to do that?

Can someone please explain a method where a General Assembly parts list and a Parts Only list can be placed in the same drawing (In my case on different sheets)?

Hi, a simple solution that I have used over the years is the following (there may be another type of solution but this is quite simple)
If you have an assembly and you need to represent two partslist in the same drawing file,
* The first thing you would do would be to create a new assembly that you could call AssemAlfa_PartsOnly.iam, for example.
* Then I put the new assembly you had inside this new assembly and save the new assembly.
* Now in the drawing, when I need a structured view in the PartsList I put the original assembly and create the structured partslist, when I need the partslist only parts I just put a view of the new assembly and define its partslist as only parts.

The new assembly is just a reference assembly, so you can work comfortably.
When you create the first drawing view with an assembly inside and define the partslist, you automatically define the balloons related to this partslist. If you create a new view of the same old assembly, the balloons in this new view will be referenced to the initial partslist.

I hope this can help you, regards!
