Parts List

Good morning all!

I am using Inventor 2016 64 - Bit Edition.

My question today is how to customize the parts list that is generated from an assembly. I typically use content center for beams. Anyway when one uses inventor's content center it throws up a bunch of stuff that isn't easy to read such as;

What we like to see is;

Good parts.JPG

My question is, is there an easy way for one to translate the calculated length in the description to Architect dimensioning.

Thanks in advance!

Hi

you could generate all of the fittings in the content center then edit the family and change descriptions/ materials etc to a more readable format?

Hi

Can you do this on an adhoc basis?  If so, then then there is hope.

  1. Create a copy of the library to your own custom library, there documents on how to do this, but I can help if you wish.
  2. Edit the new library in any which way you desire.
  • Add new fields, change existing etc.

I did this for all my fasteners and Structural steel, works a treat.

Because everything is still in the content center, it will always have the properties when the parts are rebuilt/renewed or updated, this can then be carried with you through the various software version updates.

Attached is an example of a customized hex bolt and of a CHS.

Hopefully this solves your problem.

Quite a job you have there, I would suggest you merge common shape families like rectangular and square hollow section, or Equal and Unequal Angles.

Have fun reading, this is how I do it.

and some notes on Parts List from Curtis:

If this feels too much then you can just enter the formula in BOM and copy/paste to several others, read this:

Thank you for all the wonderful help. I've changed a few of the dimensions in the few of the sturctural beams to reflect in feet instead of inches. I've noticed that it's feet decimal instead of feet architectural.

Is there a way to have it in feet architectural?
