Part dimensions don't change with assembly, parameters matched with 'A_...'

Can anyone help with this?

I'm creating a simple sub assembly of about 10 parts.  The sub assembly is placed into a main assembly as several different 'ilogic components' and each one modified differently.  Then a bill of materials from the main assembly.

I've matched the dimension parameters between the sub assembly and corresponding parts, but the part dimensions don't change when I change the dimension parameters in the sub assembly (I have to change the dimension parameter in each part in turn).  I learned from Autodesk Support that Inventor doesn't do what I'm asking without a degree of coding.
