Many excel linked parameters converting to user parameter after running the ilogic rule

Hi All,

We came across a strange incident where many excel linked parameters converted to user parameters after running the ilogic rule. I have attached the screenshots of the parameters window showing after and before running the ilogic rule.

We tried deleting the excel and relinking the excel.

We also tried changing the start cell of the excel, but no luck in both case.

Does anyone have a solution for the above issue?

Thanks in advance.

Is this a linked excel or embedded excel?

My experience is mostly with embedded

With embedded this normally happens when you rename parameters but the parameter is still used in the models.

Inventor reads the parameter list on your first sheet till it finds an empty row.

If that for example at cell 'C5', all parameters after 'C5' will fail, and your parameters in the list get yellow background and do not update anymore. If you repair the error, the list is ok again.

This behaviour might be different with linked excel, they cant be found, but still needed in model, so they are placed as userparameters

This can also happen when a parameter gets a value that is an error. So make sure your parameters can never error.

Does your script perhaps creates a parameters with an invalid value? (e.g. not numerical)

It would explain why some parameters are still in the referencetable while others are in userparameters

Hi @Cadkunde.nl,

Thanks for the reply.

We have used linked excel.

Also, ilogic rule is related to the supersession of the parts.

Further, we have found an alternative to the resolved problem by adding prefixes in all excel parameters. Surprisingly no parameters are converted to the user after running the ilogic rule.

Still do not know the reason why excel parameters are converting to the user parameters.

Many Thanks.

If prefixes resolve the problem, might it have been a problem with names being similar?

anyways glad u solved the problem. On a side note: prefix is great. I use this scheme:

Excel_ (derived param from excel)

Ref_ (reference dimension)

Form_ (param for user form)
no prefix = user param

Making configurable models is all about clarity and overview, these things help
