Issue with Inventor & Autocad 2016

We have users who open files in Inventor & AutoCAD through Adept. However multiple sessions keep starting instead of just the one which wastes a lot of time. Does anyone know how to resolve this issue please?

Hi Kevin,

I have not used Adept and I am not finding any information about it in our case histories.

Hopefully someone else has an idea.

If you find it is related to a problem with Inventor or AutoCAD please let us know.

Thanks,

Wayne

Hi Wayne,

We have been carrying out tests opening drawings both using AutoCAD directly and through Adept. I believe the issue seems to be that if we have AutoCAD open already and then open another AutoCAD drawing from within Adept, it starts another AutoCAD session instead of opening a new tab from within AutoCAD. This obviously uses a lot more resources unnecessarily.

With have asked Synergis, who are the Adept provider and they have tried working with us to resolve the problem. However they have tried editing the SDI entry from %1 to %0 in the launch application's command line but it does not open the selected file. Instead it prompts us to locate a file.

The attempted fix was taken from your link as follows:-

https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/autocad/troubleshooting/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/Double...

Please can you have a look into this and if possible offer a solution to this issue.

Hi Kevin:

I wanted to add to this response. First, I can see that this issue was reported to Synergis and you were given a response about it being fixed in later releases of Adept and AutoCAD. I wanted to review this issue myself. I have a setup using AutoCAD 2016, Adept 2015 (v10.0.4), and Windows 7 x64. I have numerous DWG files in my Work Area. I select each one and select the Launch>Launch command in Adept. The first one starts up AutoCAD and opens the file. The action to launch the second and third files does not start another AutoCAD session but opens the files in the existing AutoCAD session, so I end up with numerous tabs in AutoCAD, one for each opened file. I believe this is what you want.

So in my testing, it appears that if there is an issue, it is resolved in Adept 10.0.4 and later. If you are still having this issue, please let our helpdesk team know and together they and I will work this one to resolution.

Thank you,

Joe Gasper
