Custom Structural parts for Frame Generator

Hey Guys,

I have created a tube for square tube for use in Inventor 2018 Frame Generator. The model seems to work fine but when I create a parts list in the drawing I can only get Inventor to either give me a combined total of all the part lengths, or it lists each one individually even if it has the same length as another part. When using the stock parts in Frame Generator it returns a value based on quantity of the particular lengths. I will try to include some images showing what I mean.

I am trying to basically create cut lists and it will work if each individual part is listed separately but that makes it a real pain for the cut guy. As I said I want it to display like the stock parts that Frame Generator has already. Any help would be awesome.

If I understand your request correctly.. there is no easy way of getting that. If you have reused frame generator members then they are one item on disk and then only show up once in parts list and BOM.

However, by default Inventor will create a unique file for each curve you selected in your skeleton.

You want inventor to identify and cumulate identical items but that won't be possible without some sort of geometry overlapping and comparing and even then what happens if you add a hole to one of the members, do you expect all of them to have this hole or just that member?

Curtis had a nice explanation on how to do this, but it's a bit of work. Here it is.

Thank you for your reply.

I have checked out that link and it was helpful. I have been able to get close to what I want but not exactly. What I don't understand is the structural parts that come with the software do what I am looking for but not my custom parts. For instance if you look at the list that has the 2 x 2 x 1/8" it shows an "ITEM QTY" of 4 and "LENGTH" of 44 in. So I have 4 at that length. With my custom 2 x 2 x .090 tube it would list each one of those separately or combine them all together in one huge length.  I am thinking I am doing something wrong when I publish the part but for the life of me I cant figure out what.

I think I understand what you're after.

there are a couple of settings that I need checking. It would help if you can upload some sample files. Open the drawing and then click on File Save As Pack and Go.

1 - reported Base Quantity in Tools Document Settings BOM tab

2 - merge settings on Parts List. I would need the drawing to check this.

3 - iproperties of the parts because you might have made the items unique and Inventor can't cumulate them.

The way you are generating the part number within the content centre table is incorrect and this is why you are not getting the information in the BOm and parts list to  display/group correctly. If you can post some screen shots of you CC library and the format of the partnumber field and the field that controls the length of the part it will be simple and quick to sort it out.
