Bolt Length Updating Issue

Hi, I am having trouble with bolt lengths updating as required. I posted this issue in the general at this link...

http://forums.autodesk.com/t5/inventor-general-discussion/bolted-connection-not-solving-properly/m-p...

I was told I basically have to just live with it but I am still holding on to a shred of hope that somebody might know some code with iLogic that will force a manual solve automatically.

Long story short, the bolt length needs to get shorter or longer depending on material thickness and my bolted connection doesnt seem to want to update...

Any help is extremely appreciated.

Thanks

Sandro

Hello Sandro,

I need to research this. Can you upload an assembly that will allow me to recreate this behavior?

I am not sure there is a solution using the Inventor API. (At this time there is no API for Design Accelerator).

Also I will forward this issue to product support as it needs to be logged with Inventor Engineering.

Thanks,

Wayne

Hello Sandro,

Thanks for providing the example assembly. I am able to see the problem. I do not have good news. I am not finding a way to automatically get the length of the bolt to update after a change to extrusion size of the parts used in the bolted connection.

I created a simple assembly with a bolted connection. I have a rule that changes size of the parts. I have to do an assembly update to see the change to the parts. I see the location of the bolt head and the nut change position but the length of the bolt does not change.  I asked a colleague in Inventor Engineering about this. Here is an excerpt of their reply:

>> >>

"If an assembly update doesn’t have that effect and you have to change the bolted connection manually, then iLogic won’t be able to help."

Please post a request on the Inventor Idea station for this issue:

Thanks,

Wayne

Hi Wayne,

Thank you for looking into this for me. I am very shocked at this outcome. For how adaptable everything else in Inventor is, it is very surprising to me that making a bolt lengthen or shorten by very small increments is impossible without manually correcting. The worst part about this is not that manually updating is a lot of work, its the fact that this is just one more thing I am going to have to remember to correct before I can consider my BOM and product drawings "Complete".

Thanks anyways, I really hope this issue is corrected in the future!!
