Best way to copy a detail view / add dimensions to a new view.

I have a list of parts / templates that i regularly re-use and adjust the sizes of to suit the installations. These are just single parts, nothing special. Currently i have a drawing for each of them in a template with the same name as the part and when detailing, i can copy that view from the template onto the new drawing and replace the part reference to point to the new copy and the view adjusts / no problems.

I am looking for a better way of doing this, as the problem with the current method is that if the new drawing has template styles that are different, it causes formatting issues i need to fix which is negates the benefits of having a pre-detailed view.

This leads me to thinking that the only way is to change my approach and that i might have to create the dimensions / notes etc. with the API instead to ensure the styles are not copied across to the new drawing?

It needs to be pretty flexible as i want to just be able to point to a pre-defined template and re-create all of the dimensions + notes.

Does anyone have any ideas / suggestions on the best method for this? Any help is appreciated. Even if my whole approach is a bad idea, if you have something better,  i am open to any suggestions.

Thanks, Matt.
