Accessing application via external hard drive

I've download and installed Inventor 2016 through my laptop computer onto an external hard drive.

Would like to use the application with my desktop computer.

Are there specific files that I need to copy onto my desktop computer that will allow this?

Have already tried to run the Inventor.exe file from my desktop and nothing happened....

Thanks

Hi @Anonymous,

To be able to access Autodesk Inventor 2016, it has to be installed directly onto the computer's hard drive. You can refer to the link below for additional information. Although the post is originally for AutoCAD, this also applies to Inventor.

Install ACAD in external drive

Thank you,

Hi, imo it might be possible to do so. You'll have to find and export all Inventor (probably not just inventor, but all for Autodesk) related registry records to ".reg" from the PC where it was instaled and along with the user profile folder copy it to the external HDD. Maybe some folders from "AppData" would be needed as well. Then on the PC without Inventor instaled you could try add the registry and copy the user profile folder to it's place. But it would probably require the external HDD to be maped with the same drive letter as on the first PC. But it shouldn't be problem either.

Might be worth a try, but I can't say if it isn't against the Autodesk licence.

Thanks to both of you who've responded.

I've decided to just use my desktop and no longer  use my laptop (I teach drafting using autodesk products)

now....the next issue....

I'm unable to install onto my desktop from the autodesk website.

Are there particular files that I need to delete to ensure I can install onto my desktop???

Hi, what system do you have instaled there? Windows 10? If so, than you should try reinstal .NET 4.6
