Nastran Analysis Issue

App: Autodesk Inventor Pro 2022

OS: Windows 10 Pro (latest build)

AV: Carbon Black

When our engineers attempt to run the analysis in Nastran they do not get a prompt when the task completes.  They also don't see the report that is supposed to be generated at the end of the process.

I have heard that McAfee can cause this issue but we are not using McAfee.  We use Carbon Black as our Security Endpoint.  Due to compliance and company policy we are unable to remove the Security Endpoint from our workstations.

When I look at the Carbon Black logs there is only one thing that is being blocked and it's this:

Here are the investigation details:

Would blocking adappmgrsvc.exe from accessing lsass.exe cause the issue we are seeing in Nastran?  If so, why does Nastran need access to lsass.exe?  We can try to whitelist/bypass the adappmgrsvc.exe but we need a statement from AutoDesk that verifies that Nastran needs access to lsass.exe via adappmgrsvc.exe.

Kind Regards,

Jonathan

Hi Jonathan,

Carbon Black is known to cause this problem (as well as various McAfee products). For now, I suggest that the users use these commands on the ribbon:

  • "Results > Load Results" and browse for the results file.
  • "Results > Options" to make changes to the contour plot.
  • Ignore that the "Solve > Run" button still says "Stop". The analysis has completed but the name is not being updated.

Note that changes are planned for version 2024.0 (releasing toward the end of March) and version 2023.3 (releasing in April), provided the testing goes okay.

I will give that a shot.

We will use this work around and will be on the look out for those updates.
