Linear Static Analysis - Beam Set up for rotation results

My purpose is to calculate the angle of the tooth when it receives the critical load. I used the beam idealization for angle/rotation results. I used generic material from the library with so small elastic modulus. Also i set the diameter of the beam as 0.1 mm. I used these parameters to avoid effect at my analysis. I connected this beam with the main part with surface contact. The problem is that the beam affect the bending behavior of the part. How can i avoid this affection?

Hi @kostaspolakis

You should not be using contact for this situation. The beam elements (the beam Idealization) can be defined using the edges of the gear tooth. Since the solid and beam would then be using the same geometry, the mesh will match and contact is not required.

Also, using a contact stiffness of 1000 may be related to the problem: you are creating an artificial stiffness just with the contact elements.

If you are still having an issue, please attach the model to the forum. It is easier to know what the problem is by examining the model than it is to guess what the problem is by looking at images.

I tried this and i take the same results as rotation. Also i still have the affect of the beam. I will try to attach the file here and 2 screenshots.

Hi @kostaspolakis

Thanks for the model.

I have a question. What are the results without the beam elements?

I have an answer 🙂. The results are the same without the beam elements. The problem is not the beam elements; the problem is the mesh size. Please try a smaller mesh size and check if the results are consistent at the front and back. (I tried a mesh size of 1 mm and got consistent results. 1 mm may be much finer than needed. 1.5 or 2 mm may work.)

Haha yeah indeed. Thank you very much. By the way, when i want to measure angle i will use beam with part's line and i will try to avoid sketch with contact right?

Correct on creating the beams using the edge or edges of the existing part. No need to make the analysis more complex by creating sketches and contact. Keep it simple.
