Generating Nastran File

Hi,

I am working on a frame generated model and running a static linear test. Well, I intend to except NIC is not proceeding and it is stuck in the "Generating Nastran File" stage for about 40 min. I cut the model in half and used symmetrical constraint then closed the program and ran it again and again. I restarted the workstation and even closed all other programs running in background, NO Luck.

Any thoughts? or Is there any directive in the .INI file to change in order to solve this?

Hello @Max.H.Pour,

how are you idealizing the model i.e. are you using shell or solid elements? What is the element count? If you have a very large number of elements, it will take a while to write this information to the Nas file. Was the model made using FrameGenerator in Inventor? If so, idealizing the model using beams might be another option.

Hello @Max.H.Pour,

I am following up on the suggestion above. Did it assist you with the issue at hand?

Hi Shigeaki,

idealizations are:

  • Solid Elements
  • Elements 805009

The model is a combination of Inventor FrameGenerator and some added plates. I've tried to use beam elements but I faced the same issue I had last time (Case No: 13284490). Some beam joints did not have a common node. Also some beams have a short beam idealization resulting in a gap between their end and another beam idealization.

So I suppressed frame reference model to force NIC not to use beam elements even though using beam elements would reduce simulation time dramatically.

Hello @Max.H.Pour,

Nastran In-CAD uses the skeleton sketch for the beam idealization, hence are the sketch lines joining in that part? If they are not, that may be the reason why you are seeing unconnected beams or short beams.

The other alternative is to use shell elements. You may still see some time taken in writing the *.nas file if you have a lot of contact definitions.
