When I copy a sketch I want the copy to be a true copy.

I use excel variables heavily. When I copy a sketch I want the copy to be a true copy. But instead the copy uses references to the model parameters in my original sketch. It should copy the formulas that reference my Excel variables.

If I want to delete my original sketch and keep the copy then the referenced parameters are now orphaned.

I have to pains-takingly edit every dimension in every copied sketch to match the original.

1) Create a spreadsheet with two parameters Length1 and Width1

2) Create a part and link to the spreadsheet.

3) Create Sketch1 with a rectangle that is Length1 x Width1. Save and extrude the sketch.

4) Copy Sketch1 to become Sketch2. Sketch2 should also have a rectangle of dimensions Length1 x Width1 but instead has dimensions d6 x d7 which mean nothing to me.

AutoDesk Please Change this behaviour so that my copy matches my original.

The same restriction applies to exploding blocks. And since there is no way to duplicate block definition creating a second block with slightly altered equations is a pain in a behind.

Btw, I think this is a bug report rather than an idea.

@SEC_MECH I am interested in the workflow you tried. You should use the "Paste with Formulas" context menu command, and copy & paste in the same document as it does not support cross documents now. Hope it useful for you! Many thanks!

I was using standard copy (Ctrl+C) and paste (Ctrl+V). I did not see the new context menu item "Paste with Formulas". I can confirm that this works but would have preferred that the standard Paste (Ctrl+V) had this functionality. Inventor is already too heavily menu driven, which makes the workflow cumbersome.

We make the legacy behavior as default here, and consider the users to use the new command from content menu. Thanks!
