I posted a VBA file containing two macros (navigateup and navigatedown). They allow you to move fast through the browser without actually clicking in the browser. You could place the macros in a ribbon panel via Customize and then move this panel to a second monitor if you like.
The macros don't work with sheet metal parts and with the 3rd party folder but should work fine with regular parts and with assemblies.
I did not find a way to hook up the macros to the Up and Down key (yet) but I thought the macros could be useful even without that.
To add a little bit to this -- this should work just like it does in the Windows "regedit" (go to Start, type in "regedit" and hit Enter).
To browse through the folders, you can use the up/down arrow keys to move up and down, and you can also use left and right to expand/collapse folders. Pressing "left" when already on a folder node collapses the node. Pressing "left" when on a sub-node jumps you to the parent node.
The Home, End, Page Up and Page Down keys also work.
Hitting a letter key takes you to the next entry that starts with that letter. If you type additional letters fast enough, it takes you to the next entry with that sequence of letters.
Holding "CTRL" and using the arrow keys scrolls the view rather than moving the selection.
Something the view doesn't do, but that does work in Windows Explorer, is if you hold "Shift" and press up/down, it allows you to select multiple entities in a row.
All of these are how it should work in Inventor.
And something very handy to add to Inventor would be, if you hold down a key combination, maybe Alt or Ctrl+Shift, and then pressed up or down, it would be like dragging the selection up/down through the browser. It would just show the little black line preview until you released Alt or Ctrl+Shift, and then it would perform the re-order.
Arrow keys in browser seems to work well. I'm happy with this!
Only minor problem is if your browser is in Assembly mode you will be stopped up by the new feature that allows editing of constraint values directly in the browser. If I arrow down through the browser it stops when it encounters a constraint and pops up that value entry dialog box. Once in the dialog box there appears no way to use keys to get out of it and you have to click with the mouse on something else to carry on with the arrow keys.
If I switch the mode to Modeling then there seems to be no issues
