Update the File Explorer

Update the File Explorer

I'm about tired of all of these expensive software suites using decrepit technology.

Why does Autodesk Inventor (and I presume every other Autodesk product in my useless suite) use an outdated, workflow non-friendly file explorer design?

Atrocious, out-dated piece of trash file explorerAtrocious, out-dated piece of trash file explorer

I guess that's cool if you don't like getting work done fast, but the software should have the direct input file explorer so I (and probably many others) can stop wasting time when I export PDFs to our server. Like how has no one brought this up?? There's REALLY no one there who is hip enough with Window's file explorers, launched after XP? Why would none of the Inventor Dev Team be pushing for an actual workflow time-saver? ARE YOU JOKING ME RIGHT NOW? Get up to speed please.Look at that, I can paste my directories...Look at that, I can paste my directories...

Autodesk should follow current Windows OS File Explorer setup. And they can add whatever they need to it.

Not saying the file browser dialogs shouldn't be updated to current norms (they totally should).  But you can, and always have been able to, paste folder paths in the current dialog boxes.  You just paste it into the File Name box, hit Enter, and it will jump to the folder you pasted in.  That's the way we did it when these older dialog boxes were the norm.

I believe this worked at least as far back as XP, and possibly before that.  My memories of Win 95 and 98 are fuzzy, and I've done everything short of electroshock therapy to try to forget what little time I spent using ME. . .

There are a few places where you can't (some of the folder selection browsers in the Application Options, for example), but it works in most of the common "Open" and "Save" dialog boxes, in Inventor and other software that still uses these older dialog boxes.

Unfortunately in my case, the win 10 file explorer just stopped working completely in my laptop with fusion 360 (interacts just fine with other software); Fusion 360 stops working and displays a crush report error message everytime it should launch the file explorer, no idea why is doing this and only in my laptop (same fusion account in friends PC works ok). I haven't been able to get an answer on my error reports and can't change anything to fix it. I can't pdf, i can't convert sketch to dxf, export locally my project, etc... pretty bad. At this point even this old style explorer would be nice to see instead of the crush report.

Or at least the ability to add shortcuts on the side bar like in windows. I only need my files to go to 4 places and they are all very far away in the file explorer. I added some shortcuts but it doesn't help much. The only thing worse than Inventor doing this is Microsoft Word doing this. Save>chose a location>more locations>. It baffles me how these software's "add features" that blow worse than the default. and it still took until windows 11, which I'm sure 99.9% of professionals don't use and aren't planning to use, to add tabs to the file explorer.
