You can break the link a snapshot view has to the presentation timeline by changing something in the snapshot view then confirming to break the link. However, besides creating a new snapshot view, or immediately hitting CTRL-Z, there is no way to "un-break" the link between the snapshot view and the timeline.
It would be alright to create new snapshot views if you could actually change the order of them in the Snapshot Views viewer.
