Text Object Lines in Drawing Views

Text Object Lines in Drawing Views

There needs to be an option when inserting a view to display any text extruded on the model as the actual text font instead of an outline.  We create labels that go on our assemblies.  When creating a drawing of the label, we need to create a view for the artwork or on an ICD (Installation Control Drawing) we need to clearly illustrate the nomenclature on a label.  Currently I need to retype all of the text the I already created for the model (IPT) in a sketch on the view in the drawing (IDW or DWG) and then select all the object lines of the text from the part and turn the visibility off.  It's like creating the label twice with an extra step.  This is a VERY tedious process but the results are a sharper image and legible text.  It would be nice if when inserting a view from a IPT, IAM, or IPN if there was an option to represent model text with object outlines or fonts.

Could you colour the faces of your extruded text, then use a colour view in your drawing?

Could you find the sketch in your browser and include it in your view?

Could you project the outlines into your sketch and full the result in with a hatch?

“Could you colour the faces of your extruded text, then use a colour view in your drawing?”

That’s one way of doing it if everything is a solid white so there’s no shading on the printed drawing and solid black when there needs to be line work on the drawing to give the illusion of a line drawing but I shouldn’t have to do that.

“Could you find the sketch in your browser and include it in your view?”

That would be doable if it were possible to copy text from an IPT sketch and paste it in an IDW sketch but for whatever reason it’s not possible to do in Inventor.

To solid hatch fill every single shape of every single letter will be even more tedious than retyping the text and then if the text were to change on the part, the changed letters in the drawing will lose their hatch and you have to go back and do it all over again.

Hello,

have a look to Inventor guide and search "Get Model Sketches"

Thank Sergio!  I didn't know about the "Get Model Sketch"!  I still need to hide the visibility of any contraction geometry in the sketch, but that saves me a lot of time redrawing the text.  I still think there should be an option in the view placement dialog box to display text as fonts instead of outlines.  That would take all the work out of this.

Thanks Sergio - that's what I meant, I didn't explain it as well as you 😉
