Structural Framing View Type

Structural Framing View Type

When creating a structural drawing using structural members (Frame Generator) it would be really nice if we could use a different view type that only shows the single line/outline of different type. This would simplify the view, less clutter, easy to dimension. as all dimensions would snap to the center as it is typically done with structural drawings.

Only exception to center line dimensioning would be C Channel and Angle members. They are typically dimensioned from their back face. Which then leads me to a second/sub request.

Give us a button that will insert a Dash symbol behind C Channel and Angle members, representing their back. I understand that we could creat a "symbol sketch" but having an automated button would be much better. Make it so it is less of a hassle for the drafter. Select the button, Select the Member and done or even better, have it automatically detected and insert a symbol on all of the C Channel and Angle members! I can then move the symbol around if needed.

I understand Inventor is not a structural package like Advance Steel. We do a lot of small platforms/structures yet, not enough to justify the purchase of another software and training. We also share our drawings with structural engineers and we tend to get feed back about how "mechanical" the structural drawings look. Not to mention the extra amount of work it takes to clean up/hide most of the tangent lines and all of the center line inserting that needs to be done.  Im sure im not the only one?
