Smarter DWG export to AutoCAD - modelspace AND paperspace with viewports

It's great that we have different options to customize exporting to AutoCAD, but I feel that this process could be made even better.

How about an option that will place the border/titleblock in paperspace and place the geometry in modelspace...and then assign viewports in paperspace that match your views in Inventor?

Modelspace would scale everything at 1:1. Space contents of each original view out appropriately so that you don't have geometry on top of each other due to having multiple scales in the original.

Paperspace would grab your titleblock at 1:1 (automatically selecting your paper size, like 24x36).

Each view in Inventor (base, projected, section, detail, etc) is treated as a new viewport in paperspace and everything ends up appropriately scaled as you see it in your Inventor drawing.

Give us options to include annotations in either modelspace or paperspace - if in modelspace, dimension styles would be set up to scale text appropriately for each viewport. If in paperspace, all text is 1:1. While we are at it, convert Inventor's leaders to multileaders and convert text to multitext so these can be easily manipulated with the mleaderstyles and such.

This would save hours of cleanup for clients who have very picky standards and do not accept Inventor files.

I can't believe that there isn't more votes for this one. I've always been shocked how poor the collaborative workflow is between Inventor and Autocad. Having to work in Autocad on a dwg that was save from an Inventor drawing is nearly impossible if you are using different scales in a multi-page environment. When base view scale doesn't match other scales you are SOL.

It sure would be great to be able to create a dwg from inventor that handles similar to a natively created autocad dwg

It would also be great if the dwg export had some better layer control. Perhaps layers by material type. Currently, you end up with just visible and hidden for the model geometry. So the resuilting dwg has very little differentiation in layers.

These are exactly the same improvements that we are wishing for. And especially for mulit-page drawings, like eucci wrote, it would be very, very usefull if only a single DWG or DXF file could be exported. I hope that these improvements would be implemented someday.

Here's another part of this that I'm surprised no one has already called for.

It sure would be great if you could export a 3D solid model from INV to a dwg such that the assembly structure is retained and there is some control/differentiation of the layers the solids are placed on. Currently an exported 3D dwg is all on one layer which makes use in Acad very problematic.

So, currently, the best way to export a model is via .stp which is then imported into the autocad environment (since this retains the assembly structure). Then, you have to explode all the blocks until you have solids so that you can manipulate layers and color.

All in all, a very round about and crude workaround.
