Sketched Patterns

Would like to be able to create a sketch of hole centers, then call that sketch a pattern.  So anything that is associated with the sketched holes, bolts, and etc, would treat it as a pattern.

Sketching is a very quick and versatile way to create holes, but the downfall on large sketches is that you have to insert each bolt and etc. individually.  Pattern tables are okay, but more difficult to design and cumbersome to use.

Another variation would be to create pattern "tags", which when would allow us to pick any hole in any plane and insert the same bolts, etc.

If I'm understanding correctly, you're asking for the ability to designate any multiple-hole feature as a pattern so that a component pattern in an assembly can use it.  If that's what you mean, then I agree completely-- that would be very useful to me.

That would save a lot of time, Great Idea.

Currently I create one sketch for each of the areas of my design

Example.

01 - Frame

02 - Drive

03 - Index

04- Denester

etc

These base sketches with in each part are referenced to the part origin only.

I do not allow creation of sketch geometry association between two areas - lets say

01 - Frame and 02 - Drive

Then using one of these base area sketches which I share I then create

One hole feature for each of the groups of holes

eg

01 - Frame

          - 4 x M10 Holes (For Gearbox mount)

          - 6 x M8 Holes (For Bearing mount)

          - another 4 x M10 Holes (For Fill Cylinder)

          - 8 x Dia 10 Holes (For Guard mount)

etc

I can see that if the inventor team added the ability for us to treat each of these groups of holes as a feature pattern then we could add

bolts or other items to them in the assembly.

This could be known as an Irregular pattern or User pattern. Great idea, I have wanted this myself for a while.
