sheet metal flat pattern has different part number
Our company sheet metal folded and flat pattern have different part numbers. Anybody knows how to create different part numbers for them or could Inventor add this function?
This may be addressed in a future release. Join the Beta program to see what Autodesk is thinking.
Meanwhile, you have two options: Create a custom iProp called FlatPatternPartNumber, store the number there, and display as required in drawings, Parts Lists, etc.
Or use a derive part workflow to track the models. Build the formed part in one file, then derive it to a new file and flatten there. Show both/either as required on your drawings. Make sure to push as many sheetmetal properties/materials/settings from the 3d to the flat part. iLogic may be required.
the first way you suggested doesn't work for us as we create separated drawing for flat pattern and the title block part number box is populated from the model part number, not from custom iproperties.
the second way does work for us (or create iPart). I just though it would be easier if we just add a new part number, do not need any extra work since the flat pattern is there already.
