shading for patent drawings

Hi!

My idea is regarding using inventor for preparing drawings for patent application

I need to file design patent and I have an issue with shading.

There are special requirements and as for today there is no CAD program that allows to create these types of shades.

The requirements are described in book:

How to make patent drawings by David Pressman.

p.157 -163

Color drawing are prohibited in patents  (in most cases)

So for showing colors special hatch is used p.165

It would be great to have option to transform colors into the required hatch.

Hope to see these improvements in next version.

Thats not really correct... Just because "David Pressman" says thats the requirement does not mean it is..

That type of shading is certainly NOT a requirement..

One should reference the real standards/requirements when attempting to meet those standards/requirements..

This type of shading is not required for utility patent.
in utility patent drawings made by Inventor are just perfect.

This shading requirements concern design patent only

You can do this now but it takes a couple of steps.

In your Inventor drawing file, select the view that you want to work with and create a sketch (it's important that the sketch is associated with the view).

Now project the geometry in that you want to hatch (making sure that you project closed loops.

You can now hatch the view.

You can use any AutoCAD hatch im Inventor.

Have you tried the "Visual Style" tab with drop down "Sketch Illustration". It may get you half the way there stylistically speaking.
