freeze the parts list sorting

I created a structural parts list. If I included the assembly in another assembly the ranking of the sub-assembly had change. This could be a reason for a lot of problems between different departments.

So it could be a good idea, if there would be an opportunity to freeze the ranking of the sub assembly. I think about a button or another option to establish the ranking. If the assembly later include to a main assembly the sub ranking stay like the first ranking.

Yep. Each BOM is independent and doesn't interact with the BOMs of sub-assemblies.

It's a good idea to only reference the top level BOM if you want consistency across all documents referencing the same design.

P.S. you can right click on the item number in a parts only list to lock it - but I've never tried this on a structured parts list.

Hi @Anonymous, this has been requested before. Please consider voting for the original to help get your suggestion recognized: Assembly BOM: Propagate item number to children.

Also, this is the master Idea for making Item #'s more versatile in Inventor. I recommend voting for it as well to help get Item # enhancements started: Item Number from Parts List as an Available Property.
