Setting Marked Lines as a different layer when placing part into a drawing

When creating a 2D drawing of a parts using inventor, can marked lines come into the drawing as a different layer so they can be set as a different colour, This feature is there when you export a part but not when you are making a drawing of that part.

Left is how it currently works, right is how I'm suggesting it work.

what a disappointment to see that this is still not integrated into inventor2025.

Has this been implemented with inventor 2025? I did not see it on the "Whats New" list.

@kevinsUB93Q It is not implemented in Inventor 2025, but definitely one in our list in future release. Many thanks!

I am using "Mark" to add tags to sheet metal parts cut out on the laser. Currently I have to manually change layer for the mark, otherwise it uses "Outline" layer set up (blue)and the laser cuts all the way through.

It would be nice if you could change the layer in "Object Defaults" so we can set it automatically. For us, this way when I start an IDW and add the flat pattern all "Mark Features" are on our "Scribe" layer.

I support this idea!

I would love to have the layer control but it needs control by view setting as well (like tangent edge and thread visibility).

I have the problem of not being able to turn the marks off in some views of our GA drawings and there are 100's of them to try and hide.

Any updates? This is really necessary.

Any updates on this @Yijiang.Cai ?

Hello @Yijiang.Cai ,

It would also be very helpful if it were possible to swap the order of the lines and place them from back to front and vice versa.

We frequently change the colors of lines/edges by selecting parts in the view and using the Properties function to change the color or line type. Often, however, the line/edge of the changed part is then covered by the line/edge of the adjacent part, so the changes are not visible.

In this case, it would be helpful if the changed line/edge could be brought to the front so that it is visible and covers the line/edge of the adjacent part.

I hope this will be implemented soon – hopefully in version 2027!!

Please add this to the Style editor (when in a drawing) in the Object Defaults section so is can be set without manual input. Also please make it possible to select/assign an existing layer to use in the Mark settings in the Style editor (when in a part), or replace this with the before mentioned Object Defaults.

@dmendozaUSS4D lets hope they actually integrate this in the upcoming 2026. It should  have been out in 2025. Ever since Fusion came out they been slow with providing new features in inventor and it's usually a small hand full of features.

In the meantime, has anyone found a workaround for separating marked lines into a different layer when creating drawing views?

Any semi-automated solution (iLogic, API, styles, scripts) would be very helpful.
