We are working w/ 2 different companies to do web based parts pages for our customers, and both require an SVG format. To this point we're struggling to get an IDW to SVG workflow. Only success we've found is via DWG which would be OK, but even that work flow requires several steps and 3rd party apps.
I think the silence speaks volumes. Autodesk of course knows that vector output would be very useful for the customer, but for some reason they think this ability should be denied. Note they don't even export DXF anymore. Maybe they think it's bad to have an accurate neutral copy of the drawing? This is a knock against them in my book.
As a technical writer, I frequently need to insert drawings in documents. I try to avoid using rasterized versions of drawings since they are never as clear as vectors, and they unnecessarily increase file size.
I have tried saving drawings exported to PDF as SVG via Inkscape, but in the PDF, most shapes are converted to many small elements, which also increases file sizes. For example, many circles comprise dozens of segments in the PDF rather than being a single element.
If Autodesk will not add an Export to SVG option, at least improve the quality of exported PDFs.
