Rotate view by Work Datums, Planes, Axis

Rotate view by Work Datums, Planes, Axis

View rotation is now possible to do by angle or by horizontal/vertical edge. Unfortunately it have to be strictly the edge geometry from the model.

I can imagine how small probability is that your have not any straight lines in the View. Unfortunately in my case it is quite often because the most of the shapes are based on cones and it's section. Sometimes it is quite challenging to rotate the veiw into requested orientation.

Even if you have the straight line in the View, it doesn't have to be H/V oriented exactly as needed for proper rotation and need be calculated the angle.

I would be happy to have an oportunity to rotate the Views by Base Planes os Work Features, or maybe even Sketch Lines. Probably it should not be so complicated change, mainly because the view orientation is not permanetly linked to selected edge orientation (When edge changed, the View orientation is not updated).

Thanks

Btw. very similar situation is with the datum points or axis points in the drawings. There is a "align to edge" command that allows to pick only hard geometry. Here is quite often very usefull to pick Work Features like Planes or Axis.

Again there is no link to picked object.

Could you use "custom view orientation"?  When you are placing your view, if you select the pull down arrow on the lower right of the orientation cube, a drop down menu will appear and "custom view orientation" is an option.  when selected, it brings up your model and you can orientate it the way you want it.  When you have it the way you like, select "finish custom view" and it will place in that view in your drawing.  It might not be as convenient as the function you would like implemented, but it's a way to easily get the view you want.custom view orientation.JPG

Hi @coilmaker , thanks for your reply.

I know that option and I am using it a lot.

Unfortunately I am talking more about Section and Auxiliary Views, where this option is not available.
