With solutions like Ansys Live and Live Parts demonstrating the power of GPU-accelerated simulation, I would love to see Autodesk bring similar real-time analysis capabilities directly into Inventor.
Inventor's current simulation technology is based on a legacy FEA architecture that was originally developed long before modern GPU computing became practical for engineering workloads. While it remains valuable for traditional validation, today's designers increasingly expect instant feedback while iterating on geometry.
Autodesk already has experience leveraging GPU and high-performance computing technologies, for example within Generative Design workflows. Extending this expertise toward a real-time desktop simulation environment could significantly improve the design process.
Imagine making a design change in Inventor and immediately seeing how stresses, displacements, flow behavior, or temperature distributions update in real time. This would:
One of the most compelling aspects of real-time simulation is the ability to explore ideas interactively instead of waiting for results after every modification. The engineering workflow becomes more intuitive, creative, and efficient.
I believe a GPU-based, real-time FEA/CFD environment integrated into Inventor would be a major step forward and a highly competitive feature for Autodesk's design and manufacturing ecosystem.
