Project file Template

Project file Template

Every time we create a new Project, we have to configure the project settings from the scratch.

It will be nice if we could create new projects based on other already existing:

Copy from other project the same template locations, content center custom folders, libraries, material libraries, etc.

This would be nice.  My way of working around it currently is to create my own "Project File Template", stored in a centralized location.  Instead of creating completely new projects, that "template" is just copied and renamed.

Unfortunately, there is always the occasional user that doesn't follow the established process and ends up creating a project file on their own that is missing the proper settings and library paths.  Then they call me confused about why things don't work like they're supposed to.

The ability to create true templates for project files would help with this.

@jtylerbc , The "project template file" is what everyone does now, i think it's time to offer something more professional.

Copy paste  files, rename it... it's such an amateur workflow... but there's the only one we have now...

we all look like amateurs!!!Smiley Very Happy

Thank you for the vote.

We I started drawing professionally, I began to open a new Project for every new errr . . . project. I can't spend a half hour dealing with something that should be as easy as 'Copy Project', so I just use one or two projects and put everything into it.

As @nickada mentioned it would be neat to easily copy the project changing only one or two settings!

Here's my up vote for this functionality.  Another reason this would beneficial to maintain custom material/appearance library paths.  When you are 3 or 4 releases behind you always hope these things are resolved when you update to the latest release and no longer have to resort to workarounds.

I also would like to upvote this functionality to future releases. Specification of work require to create new project file to every project/order what we have. Then for everyone is needed to create separate project file, but without custom libraries. It would be nice, when you create new project it copies all settinge from previous one which was currently active.

Hello, it's some time ago you asked this question but we made the C3DT Project app. You can make a directory with an IPJ file inside with the presets you want. Then select this in the app, select the place where you want the new project to be created and then you can define a project name and the app will copy all the files and activate this inside inventor.

If interested you can download it here (it will be on the app store in a couple of days also)
