Pocket Depth Callouts

I'm not sure how common the need for this is, but I have the need to call out pocket depths on plan views of drawings for simple router cut parts.

Currently I can use a leader and pull in a Parameter value of an extrusion feature, so that the depth is intelligent and will update if the extrusion depth changes. But if a move face or thicken feature is added, the extrusion dimension does not reflect the pocket depth accurately. I'd like to be able to specifiy a face or plane as the top of material and then select pocket faces to place the pocket depth callouts.

A simple example of a part with routed pockets and the call outs I'd like to have:

I knew someone would comment to the fact that it is not a standard annotation method.

I wonder if the Inventor developers are constrained to only consider annotation tools that are per a ratified standard?

It's been pointed out to me that by the supplier who receives these drawings that the annotation practice shown in the example is more clear and concise than creating section views of the parts in question. The machine operator / CNC programmer will read in the top view from a DXF file and can interpret the pocket depth notes from the drawing more accurately than he can a "properly" sectioned drawing for most of the designs using this method.

Ideally, every supplier would use CNC software capable of reading a STEP file and set the pocket depths from the actual CAD data, but that is not the reality at this point.

Our goals are to be accurate and consistent, and to communicate the design clearly, and I think the pocket notes do that, however I'm nervous about the manual input currently required to create and update them.

Honestly, I don't even really know what all the details of Y14.5M are.  I've picked up a few bits and bobs here and there, but I'm fairly certain that I do a lot of things every day that are not in compliance with it.  Thing is, the consumers of my data - customers, machine shops, bosses - are more interested in being able to clearly see and understand the data that I'm presenting to them than they are in calling out an annotation as being not according to the standard.
