Allow users to Pattern Work Features in Assemblies

Work Features can be used with the pattern tools in the Part environment, but not at the Assembly level/environment.

 

Sometimes it is useful to draw axes and points at the assembly level and use those for a pattern, rather than features/components only.

 

For example, if you do not want to have holes made at the assembly level, but want to pattern bolts going through SOME (not all) of the holes patterned at the part level, you could simply pattern axes through some of their centers (starting with any hole), then use those to pattern your bolts. Right now we are limited to copy a pattern from the part level onto the assembly level, then suppressing/deleting additional unwanted occurrences.

It would be nice if patterns would work with work axis and work planes.

 

Now fore some reason this objects can not be patterned.

How did you do that?

I can not select axis or plane for pattern component.

 

Please post sample file.

 

Are this done in part file?

 

I need this in assembly.

This is a part no where in your idea did you state in an assembly.. Smiley Wink

 

You are correct it cannot be done in assembly. The pattern tool in assembly is for parts and assemblies.

 

 May I ask why you do it?

Hi,

I ap placing numerous parts in an assembly and to do that I need to create reference geometry of axis and planes (in order not to constrain to other parts because whan I after replace components constrains are lost).

Could you add a way to pattern work planes in an assembly the same way we're able to do it with parts

I also wonders this.

Usually, patterns in assemblies are possible with common CAD systems (not definied by a subitem (Part level)). If necessary, a sketch must be created in the assembly which defines the pattern.

Is this really not possible in Inventor or is it just a lack of knowledge?

A useful feature would be to be able to pattern work planes or axes like any other component. Currently they do not seem to be selectable using the pattern tool.

Been able to pattern Work plane & Axes for as long as I can remember.

 

Can be selected either onscreen or via browser

Whilst it is implemented in part environment (Feature-Pattern), I guess he's missing it in Assembly-Environment. 

In Assembly-Environment you can pattern a component, and since Work-Geometry is not a component, there is no patterning of it in assembly context. So maybe you make a part, do your pattern there and insert it in an assembly in order to use the geometry.
