Parameter renaming and management directly from Dimension Input boxes

Parameter renaming and management directly from Dimension Input boxes

Allow us to rename a dimension directly from the Edit Dimension dialog box. Also allow us to expand the input box to see and manage advanced properties like nominal and model values, marking as Key, marking for Export, and adding a Comment:

We should be able to do this in Sketches as shown above, as well as in Dialog Box input boxes:

I like your idea but parameter renaming in a dimension edit box has been supported for a number of years. Simply enter the new parameter name, then =, then the expression for the dimension value. (i.e. myValue=5.25in). It would be useful at times to have the other properties accessible from the edit box.

@nmunro You can create new parameters and edit "Model Parameters" in this fashion, but you can not edit "User Parameters" from the dimension edit box. At least I can't... it gives me errors. Smiley Indifferent

@nmunro, thanks for mentioning that. But in addition to what @Anonymous's said, that method also doesn't allow us to easily see the current name of the Parameter. It also doesn't allow us to quickly just add or remove a couple characters to the current name. It also doesn't work for Driven dimensions.

alexmende: Since all dimensions are model parameters, I don't see a lot of use for renaming user parameters in an edit box. If DRoam's edit enhancements were to be extended to include all parameters referenced in a dimension expression then you would have access.

DRoam: The current name of a sketch dimension parameter is shown in the title block of the edit box. For other dimensions, i.e. an extrusion distance, simply move the cursor over the edit box and the name is displayed (dxx=value). Your other points are good ones. I do like your set of enhancement requests for parameters.

When we set any dimension from any sketch, it is later listed as parameter.

If we need to set it as key, we need to close the current "Dimension Properties" dialog and open the Parameters dialog, to set it as key.

So it would be useful to have from the Dimension Properties the possibility to set it as key.Dimension.png

Here's a related idea, asking to do this right from the dimension itself:

Ooooo @DRoam, very similar indeed, maybe merge both into one cohesive feature?

We have merged...

Yes it makes sense to merge into one feature, thanks guys.

Definitely, cheers, hopefully we can gain some traction.

This is needed. Being able to quickly rename, mark for export is crucial when making assemblies from a multi body solid.

For example you know you want a pattern in your assembly so you pull the spacing off a sketch using a driven dimension. It would be such a time saver to rename, and set for export while creating that parameter only for that reason. Now you jump back to the assembly, link parameter, grab the MP (Or edit the existing folder), filter by renamed, BOOM! Pattern is now linked to a driven dimension in the master part. Quick and easy.

How are we at 2 years, with no response?

Plus this idea is busy, it's annoying you have to go to manage tab and parameters box just to change parameters.
