Nesting support Inventor Model State

Nesting support Inventor Model State

Inventor Model State (AIV 2022) allows us to create multiple representations of a part or assembly within a single document. We be able to create manufacturing states, simplification levels, and more in the same part or assembly file. It would be great If we are able to create Nesting for Inventor Model State. We don't need to export the flatten part *.dxf one by one to create Nest part. The idea is end-to-end solutions from Design to Creation.

Thanks!

agree, happiness to use model state in 2022. but when creating a nesting file it's a step back.

I have an assembly of 52 flat sheets that I want to nest but I cant due to model states. The hassle of exporting each one to dxf first really removes all benefits of the nesting tool. So it would be extremely beneficial if they improved this!

I was just asking about this on the forums.

It is quite frustrating not being able to chose the model state in the source.

You have my vote for sure.

Being able to nest from the top assembly saves a lot of steps and time.  Not being able to choose a model state to nest from negates this ability.

Even if we had a standard NEST model state for Inventor NEST to look at instead of the Primary model state, we could configure that to work.

Definitely. I have RH/LH versions of parts which would not be an issue were it not for the fact that the parts need to receive different processing requirements on different faces. As such, the "A-Side" would vary. It would be nice if Inventor nesting could recognize that.

Hey Guys!

Former SW user here... I've been using Inventor now for a couple of years with 11 years of SW use.

I think I have a solution to the nesting problem. However, I haven't seen anything on this thread with the specific pronest software being referred to.

Here's what we just encountered while trying to nest parts from inventor, using pronest...

We began using model states, to which I was thrilled to finally see something similar to the configurations I so, so missed from SW. But we ran into not being able to nest anything that had an added Model State.

To keep this short and simple, what I did is:

1. In the top level assembly: I kept the Master Model State and added all of the different Model States that were needed.

:For example

2. Change all model states used in the top level to Master Model State under the Master Model State.

3. Leave the other Model States as needed in the top level assembly.

After doing this we were able to nest parts. It also didn't matter if it was saved/checked into Vault in a different model state other than Master State. Our "pro nester" was able to easily choose the Master State from the top level assembly and nest everything that was required.

If this doesn't have anything to do with what you guys are talking about here, please disregard. It seemed like this was the same/similar issue that we were experiencing and I thought I'd add my 2 cents of solve.

Also, we're on Inventor 2022 currently.

Cheers!

I am also facing this same issue, Model state to nest converted, Primary model state only converting now, If this option is enabled in model state, Very useful for end users like me

This must be made possible asap. I just spend days modeling assemblies that have model states in them. The model states are used for color variants. And accordingly these model states have the right part numbers and descriptions in them. Using appearance for colors doesn't give me the correct BOM lists. So model States are the only answer it seems, but now Nesting turns out to be a nightmare. Exporting flat patterns to dxf is not an option as it will lose all quantity information.

Nesting should look at the chosen model state defined in the assemblies.
