iFeatures as new Bodies

iFeatures as new Bodies

iFeatures are an old, but powerful Feature of Inventor.

Since the age of this functionality, you can only place iFeatures in already existing bodies, but not start a new body with an iFeature.

Starting a new body with an iFeature like you do e.g. with an extrusion shouldn't be too much of an effort and probably do for a JDI.

This could be very helpful in multi-body-parts.

Also when you want to use iFeatures in Factory Assets.

Create new body to iFeature. Same Extrude and other Features in Part

I'd like to be able to place an iFeature into a part file and have the option to create it as a new solid body on placement...

This would be in addition to the already available option to select which existing body an iFeature is added to.

In addition, please enable the existing (above described option) to select multiple existing bodies so iFeatures can cut or add material to multiple participants (bodies).

Best,

Brian

iFeatures in 2017 cut multiple bodies (yay!). The other ideas would be great though!

Option to create an ifeature (such as equal angle) as a new solid body for multi body solids

Frame design in a multibody part would be useful.

Particularly useful when adding iFeatures like steel-sections to a multi-body part prior to generating an assembly from the bodies.

Current workflow involves adding iFeatures and then splitting the body, which is an extra couple of features rather than a simple option when placing the iFeature.

Is it possible to create ifeature that brings with it several bodies?

For example we define 3 extrudes as an ifeature, when we place them in the desired part, can be inserted as 3 diferent bodies?

Hello @Anonymous

Today, the multi-body support within ifeatures only works on cut operations.  If this request is important to you, I would suggest authoring a new Idea for it, as this one was archived due to limited support (8 votes).  Regards -Dan

Just for my info. What do you consider the minimum votes to start considering some idea?

I can have some ideas for ifeature but I need to develop them.

There is no secret antidote for consideration.  We have implemented ideas that possess a wide range of votes (this can be proven by reviewing (filtering on) the implemented ideas to date).

In order to properly support multi-body solids, the Insert iFeature function should allow the user to insert as a new solid.

Currently, the command will not compute if an iFeature is inserted into a multi-body part and no input is given for the Solids selection.

This function would be useful in top-down design, especially in frames, where structural extrusions could be inserted as new solids with minimal user input.

How has this only got 11 votes?

I have just come across this problem myself.

For those of us designing using multiple solid bodies within a single part file, it would be nice to be able to utilize the flexibility and power of iFeatures with the added option of creating a new solid body when placing the iFeature.

Small thing to ask but it would really help that workflow.

This needs to be a thing, I got to testing ifeatures again today and this lack of functionality renders the useless once more.
