Did you mean:

MM = mm / IN = in (Dimensions)

MM = mm / IN = in (Dimensions)

Most of the time when I'm drawing, my cap lock are on.  When I type in units in uppercase Inventor doesn't recognize that MM is mm, or IN is in.  I want Inventor to apply the units - proper case or not.

I don't live in a perfect world and just like the other +400 votes, we just want IN and MM to mean inches and millimeter when typing values in sketch dimensions in parts.  Nothing else, nowhere else.  Don't want them to be automatically changed in text, in notes on drawings, dimensions on drawings, tolerances (on shafts or anything), nowhere else, just dimensions in sketches.  In my nearly two decades of Inventor I have probably entered a dimension in as feet once, and never in centimeters.

@phlyx Man you are hard work. I mean, I get it, you want the problem fixed, but only on your terms. You don't want a solution that would help people more broadly. You haven't the time to answer my questions but you have the time to insult me. Here's wishing you a very salty Christmas and a briny new year.

ambrose,

You are wrong on so many levels.  Every platform except inventor supports MM as mm.  Solidworks imo is the strongest platform out, and yes....MM is recognized as mm.  Solidworks accepted MM when I first got into engineering.....a looooong time ago.

You just cannot argue this.  Autodesk is wrong for not addressing this.  End of discussion.

Would even be happy with a setting in Options:

Allow MM=mm, IN=in and FT=ft?  YES / NO

Then people who, for whatever reason, oppose this feature, they don't have to have it on.  Pretty flipping simple.  Oh wait, that would resolve this issue.

And MARK YOUR CALENDARS!!!

We will be CELEBRATING the TENTH BIRTHDAY for THIS TOPIC,

Sadly without any resolution.

Bring a neighbor, a friend, or your favorite Autodesk executive!

@off2board I've said it before and I'll say it again. I don't actually care that much either way. I'd just personally prefer the Inventor team to spend their time on other things, given their limited resources.

I am far from the only person who has voiced concerns over this. I don't know why I get the most flak. Perhaps it's because I'm the only one dumb enough to keep replying.

Solidworks has a lot going for it, all things considered it might even be better. However I happen to think that it's parameter system is not as good as Inventor's. I would explain, but I don't think you'd be interested.

@ambrose enough people *DO* care, and enough care to keep this request going for almost TEN YEARS.  No one is asking to make it an across the board thing, just make it an option, a switch, a preference selection.  People that speak out against this request are like being at a buffet and someone askes if the restaurant could offer spinach.  The person next to them doesn't like spinach and wouldn't eat it but they speak out against it.  Why?  If Autodesk offered this option it does not change a single thing for people who don't want to use it.

I still use classic menus.  Do I care if anyone or everyone else uses the marking menu?  Heck no, what other people use doesn't affect me at all.  This CAPS thing wouldn't affect anyone who doesn't want to use it, ten years of requests should have had this on the radar.  And we do ALL drawing notes and dimension notes in ALL UPPER CASE so I stubbed my toe on the MM and IN thing at least a dozen times today (the CAPS LOCK light is very hard to see on my Logitech K800 keyboard).  It would save me time, frustration, and save the people around from hearing me yell "D@MN IT!!!" (or "d@mn it!") dozens of times a day.
