mirror pattern renaming

Currently I can't find any way to rename the derived files created by a mirror pattern.

The dialog doesn't give any option to change the assigned name.

Renaming them in design assistant results in it being ignored, and the mirror pattern creates new files with the old names on next open and update.

The only option currently is to recreated the mirror pattern, messing up any dependent constraints, etc.

Instead, it should allow one or both of the above suggested workflows.

So you can only assign names on mirror pattern creation or when adding new items (but only for those new items, not for existing elements).

If you create the mirror and then later go back, you cannot change/rename the parts (in the mirror interface), and the design assist workflow does not work either due to something with how the mirror pattern is implemented.

The only way is to remove them from the pattern, (close and reopen the edit), then re-add them, but this only creates new mirrored elements, not renaming the existing references (for constraints etc.).

Ah, I got you now. 😉 
As of renaming components/their filenames: it is not really supported in Inventor, even if you didn't save those documents to disk. It keeps those files in the document alive... Same applies, when you create a part in the assembly, then delete it w/o saving. You cannot place a part with the same name in the given session. So I guess, there is some internal lock on session files. After saving them, it's getting 'harder' 😁

no but design assistant is able to rename (eg. assembly and derived references/links), except something about the new mirror pattern doesn't work, and it just ignores the design assisted result, and just recreates the old files again (after a close and reopen)
