Mesh Alignment Tool

Mesh Alignment Tool

I'm trying to bring back the idea to life again. it was first proposed by @al_inventor and status changed to archive due to lack of support vote.

but i see you @al_inventor .

I'm dealing with quite an amount of Reverse Engineering modelling and my reference is mesh .stl file. And it is just another type of hassle to have the mesh file aligned properly on the coordinate / global system on another software, and import it back again in Inventor.

It will make the process so much easier to have this tool build in Inventor.

Hi Natasha,
In reverse engineering operations, aligning the Mesh or point cloud to the Global coordinate system is one of the important processes. However, unfortunately, there are no advanced alignment options for this issue in Autodesk Inventor and Fusion software. A simple alignment option has been added to the new versions of Fusion and it provides some benefits. In reverse engineering operations, it would be useful to have advanced alignment options for only the scan data to the Global coordinate system and also to have options to align different poses created from the scan data. In this regard, I recommend examining the Geomagic Design X alignment and Global coordinate system alignment options. There are many options to be developed in reverse engineering, I think it would be useful to focus a little more on this issue. Especially considering that 3D scanning systems and Additive Manufacturing will increase even more in today's and the future, it would be useful to develop software features that will contribute to these issues.
Thank you.
Best regards.

hi @al_inventor

my references for the (hopefully accepted) mesh alignment tool as for now are from Fusion and also Geomagic Design X. but im more keen on using the Alignment Wizard in Geomagic DX, it's more practical. to have mesh align to Global Coordinate in Inventor, that'd be a start.

and i second this. moving onwards, tools from Geomagic DX and Fusion, like Mesh Sketch to get the cross section should be part of the core tools.

it's time for Autodesk to make Inventor big with it's annual what's new 😇
