Merge or Cannibalize Inventor Studio into the IPN Environment

So after some time spent in both the .IPN environment and now Inventor Studio I have noticed a possible opportunity missed by Autodesk. I find the .IPN environment to be mostly user friendly, but it lacks a few of the qualities that Studio has. The largest feature being the ability to render. You can ‘Ray Trace’ in the IPN, but this has its limitations. I am no programmer, but is there a reason that Studio is only an option in the .IAM and not both the .IAM and the .IPN?

Is it possible to merge Studio into the IPN? Could the renderer and a few other features of Studio be cannibalized into the .IPN?

These features would be awesome to have in the .IPN environment.

For some background, the company I work for has been a long user of Inventor, especially our product development team. Our publications team has been using 3DS Max for most of our rendering needs, i.e. animations, general image rendering, and the like. 3DS max is great, but we have issue with the fact that is breaks association with the development teams files. Therefore, anytime a change is made to the designs of a product, that change must be manually altered in our publications. Which can be tedious and wastes time.

It seems that Inventor Studio is either underdeveloped or has been developmentally abandoned altogether. The IPN seems to be here for the long haul, so I propose that the Image and Animation Renderers, along with the option of customizing your fps and the ability to control your acceleration, be added to the Presentation Tab in the IPN.

Animating in Inventor Studio is clunky at best. The ‘Position’ triad function within the Animate Component/Constraint is awful to use.

In the IPN, the ‘Tweak Triad’ is user friendly with the option to switch between the ‘Move’ ‘Rotate’ and ‘Locate’ being simple and intuitive. I love how the faces and edges highlight with clearly displayed previews, when using the ‘Locate’ feature.

So in summation, I believe there are two options forward, either:

  1. Keep it mostly as is and make Studio more user friendly. Add more options (‘Move’, ‘Rotate’ and ‘Locate’) for when you are using the Animate feature. Set the Timeline up more like the Timeline in the IPN. Allow for the ability to control subassemblies as separate entities.
  2. Merge or cannibalize the good things from Inventor Studio and place them into the IPN environment, most importantly the ‘Render Image’ and ‘Render Animation’ features, but along with them the fps customization, and acceleration adjustability.

The Interface could look something like this:

I have now come across the exact same problem.

It is crazy that you effectively have to do two lots of work. A presentation file for exploded drawing views and an animation / production within Inventor Studio.

The storyboard output quality in WMV and AVI is poor at best, to the point of being embarrassing.

I think that the presentation UI / Interface is nicer with respect to moving components and re-ordering component explodes / camera positions.

If it could be this but with the expanded options of Inventor Studio to improve the rendering quality / functions, Autodesk would be on to a winner IMO.

At the very least, an option to import an exploded IPN in to Inventor Studio would be a start...
