MBD: GD&T is also required in the Assembly Parts! Tolerance Feature Assembly Parts!!!

I need a way to place GD&T in the assembly parts as well. It works in the parts, but it is completely missing in the assembly parts.

I would like to propose adding the capability for GD&T callouts to the 3D annotation features for weldments. Unlike other assemblies, weldments may have welding distortions which can contribute variation on top of a normal stack up of individual piece part tolerances, and these distortions should be controlled. Additionally, inventor weldments may be machined, creating new surfaces which also need to be controlled. Finally, a feature in a piece part, such as a tapped hole in a cylindrical boss, for example, might be placed with a greater (in this case, positional) tolerance within a welded assembly when other surfaces are not hard-constrained.

We definitely need GD&T on weldment especially when we have machining operations. We can't otherwise create 3D annotation on the model (MBD) without creating a drawing.

Hi, customers definitly need GD&T in weldment assemblies. Please implement this functionality.

Thanks.

I'd love to see if I could add GD&T to the component/assy level.  If I have a face it would be A, then whether I override that at the drawing level or not I could turn on references associated w/ that face.  So if it's A, I label it as AB in my part and all the constraints that contain a reference to face A would update to AB.

Also, It'd be awesome if you could see an overlaid view of the effect of a GD&T callout.  If I add a positional constraint to a hole, it'd be nice to see a visual of how the bounds of the hole are affected.

When Autodesk accepts this idea please extend this functionality to the weldment environment as well.

The current workaround is to make a simplified part with no simplifications and add the 3D GD&T to that model. However threaded holes are then no longer recognized. To do MBD correctly you should be able to apply GD&T at assembly level for both normal assemblies and weldments.

This idea has been implemented within Autodesk Inventor 2027. Please review the Inventor 2027 What's New article here, for more information regarding the new MBD/3DA (model based definition & 3D annotation) capabilities that are available within the assembly & weldment environments. Special thanks to everyone who cast a vote for it.
