Leader text automatically aligns with leader - Not always useful

I understand the usefulness behind this update to 2016, but it was always good to be able to keep the text flat while having the leader protrude from any face, especially where busy GA drawings were concerned. Changing the angle of the text in the control box does not solve the issue.

Can this 'aligned text' function become a switchable option, either in App Options or Styles, perhaps?

I wholeheartedly agree with this. I think this should be a per-leader option, not a global setting per the App Options or Styles.

In Inventor 2015 and previous we had the ability to center the text above or below a leader. In Inventor 2016 and 2017 this ability was removed. See images illustrating the issue below.

So, to be clear. We can no longer create a leader with text located directly below (or above) as shown in the 2015 example.

The ability to do this in 2015 and previous is described by Autodesk as a "bug" in this posting:

http://forums.autodesk.com/t5/inventor-forum/2017-leader-text-orientation/m-p/6685721#M620164

However, fixing the bug removed an ability to replicate a leader location style that was used for many, many years. Leaving users with no way to create consistent looking leaders going forward.

Not to be a stickler on this buuuuuttt.....

ANSI/ASME standards on leadered text state:

"... They should be brief and should be carefully worded so as to be capable of only one interpretation. Notes should always be lettered  horizontally on the sheet... Leaders should be short as possible and cross as few lines as possible. They should never run through
a corner of a view or through any specific points or intersections. The leader should be attached at the front of the first word
of a note, or just after the last word, and not at any intermediate place."

Just sayin....;)

My coworkers & i were surprised.  We just switched from 2015 to 2018 and now can't dispaly degree lines around our product like have been for the past decade.  It's kind of ridiculous that Autodesk pulls the rug out from under it's customers feet so often, like in the example above. It's great to add new features and options that could help make your job easier, but it's just poor design when you take away features that countless customers have been using for some many years.

i agree 100% with the author of this request to have an option to have the leader extend from any side of the text.

Hi. Voted 🙂

To make this really good the entire function needs to be better.
Now in 2019 when using text box it seems just slapped on there and the arrow line goes under the box or inside the box sometimes and I don’t understand why but it looks no good either way 🙂
In my opinion if box is selected then the line should attach to the box following the below steps.

Step 1.
Imagine a text box whether it’s selected or not.

Step 2.
Have the following options to select from.

  • No box (select standard arrow line or modified… see below for box).
  • With Box (Select standard line attachment or attach to box corner with auto move around the box to whatever corner is closest to a imagined 45° angle and also have snap to 45° with override pressing ctrl. Last selection is to do it the same way but select the “closest” center of the box.)

Has the number of votes to change leader text alignment back to pre 2016 version out numbered the requests to "improve" this feature to post 2016 style yet? 88 votes today + 14 votes here https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/inventor-ideas/rotate-leader-text/idi-p/7635189 Or was it just programmers giving the sales department an "improvement" to sell? We have just "upgraded" from 2014 to 2019 so you can imagine how I'm going to have a month's work taking advantage of the "improvements" to get back to where I was before I "upgraded".

As a user of Inventor 2015 until this year and switching to 2025, I am late to the show.  However, I have been creating drawings with these leader text styles for 9 years at this point and would love this align feature to be a toggleable setting.  I would like to thank Rakesh with the support team for looking into this and directing me here.
