Inventor -S- Key

Inventor -S- Key

Ok everyone please vote on this it will make inventor more productive ever than before. In fusion i can draw much faster compared to inventor just because of one KEYBOARD key it is called the S key.

So inventor developer could you please include the S key functionality like the one implemented in Fusion 360 where you press the S key in your keyboard a pop up will show where you can customize what command tools are included in Part environment, Assembly environment, Drawing environment, Sheet metal environment, Weldments environment by doing this it will make inventor user much more productive.

Thanks

Existing function, can be called by right click.

And you can customize it on "Customize" tab.

The Key "S" has already bound to "Creating Sketch" for calling it up on keyboard, what they should really leave as it is.

The right click is not enough and i do not like to use it because it cover lots of area but by using S key function like in Fusion 360 is a lot more better and appropriate this is one of the reason my colleagues do want inventor they prefer solidworks and fusion 360. By the way about the S as creating sketch they should make the hot key to be customize by user.

This is an amazing feature in Fusion 360,  You can sort of do a similar thing by right clicking on any button and adding it to the quick access toolbar, but it is not as productive as the S key in Fusion 360Capture1.JPG

It sounds like you're really committed to saving drafting time.  If this is true, I recommend you learn the existing keyboard shortcuts, or  map your own custom keyboard shortcuts to the inventor commands.  In my opinion, there is no faster way to interact with Inventor than this.

The S functionality is not exactly the same as Inventor's "customize" command, but you can pretty much re-map any command to any key and any menu you want in inventor.  This includes the ribbon, quick-access toolbar, and right-click contextual menus, as well as the keyboard shortcuts.

I wish you well in your pursuits!

Well with the  time spend in inventor i memorize some of the common shortcut keys i always use but still the S key in Fusion 360 is the one i really love. thanks for pointing things to make me more productive

The customize setup is great. I've mirrored regular autocad keys and it is the fastest way to model.

Been looking for something like the S key shortcut function in SolidWorks and the Fusion thing looks similar.

Please bring to Inventor.

Used to have S programmed to a mouse button, rarely needed to let go of mouse and 3D mouse (Spacemouse).

Able to work faster with less mouse travel, clicking and whatnot.

This functionality definitely needs to be incorporated in Inventor. I've used this function in Solidworks and if significantly improved my productivity. When I saw that Fusion 360 also had it, I instantly thought, "Why doesn't Inventor have this?" Here's hoping that it's incorporated in 2020.

The S-Key is in Fusion 360 and has been incorporated in Solidworks for a decade. In my opinion, this feature NEEDS to be added to Autodesk Inventor.

The radial menus are a much cleaner look and they can be changed to show what ever you want them to. That function has been in Inventor for a long time. It's less work to right click the mouse then to reach all the way to the keyboard. The 3dconnexion tools are really nice if you have them but those have to be adjusted to your liking also.

With radial menus you are limited to 8 functions as far as I know.

Keystroke S would be programmed to a mouse button so it would be faster than right click and drag.

Yes on the Space mouse setup. BUT that's 8 options per button and they change for what ever environment your in. So that's 4 or 8 options in part design, then different options when in assembly and then another set for drafting and so forth.  I have both the wireless space mouse and the big boy with more buttons then Inventor or Solidworks functions. Inventor has a built in radial menu that's changeable.

The Marking Menu (aka radial button) is a great feature within Inventor. This function is very similar to the Mouse Gesture button in Solidworks. That being said, the S-Key is a function to compliment the Marking Menu.

In my opinion, this is the reason Autodesk incorporated it in Fusion 360. Fusion 360 has both the Marking Menu and the S-Key. Furthermore, the S-Key and Mouse Gestures are utilized in Solidworks. As a former Solidworks user, having the ability to utilize both functions, has significantly increased my productivity.

Lastly, those who utilize a 3D Connexion Mouse Pro or higher can program the S-Key as well. I know this, because at my previous job, where I utilized Solidworks, I used the 3D Connexion Mouse Pro, S-Key, and Mouse Gestures (which is very similar to the marking menu) to do ALL of my design work.
