Inventor Point Cloud Functionality expansion

Inventor Point Cloud Functionality expansion

Hi,

Just like to start off by saying that the improvements in the 2027 edition for Point clouds are great, It has been a long time coming and appreciate the extra features, but while there is some momentum can we add even more functionality:

  1. Be able to Name a Box Crop, and add the ability to turn the visibility on and off the selected Crop.  Currently if you have more then one Crop, it can be challenging and inefficient to select multiple geometry. The crop only allows you to select the inside or outside of the crop, which can remove the previous Cropped points if not in the selected zone.  The saved Crop could be saved in the Point Cloud Folder in the Model Browser.  For example if you had a scan of a building and wanted to just have box crops of all the columns.
  2. Add the ability to Crop in multiple shape like AutoCAD, for example:
    1. Rectangular
    2. Polygonal
    3. Circular
  3. In the 'Attach Point Cloud' pop up window, add back in the check box for 'Insert at Origin', which will save having to enter 0 in XYZ, as was in the pop up on previous releases
  4. Add the ability to change the point cloud Colors:
    1. RGB - As is Currently available
    2. Elevations - Customize the range and Color scales/Color Mapping, similar to AutoCAD and RECAP functionality.  This would be great now that the PC can be added to a IDW.
    3. Normal
    4. Object Color
  5. Adding an option to select between Section Views or 'box Crop' Feature like in Navis works that would only select the model and PC inside the box and that could be easily moved.

As mentioned, great to see some focus on the Point cloud tool set, would be great to expand further.

@damien as to item #3, we made the enhancement in Invnetor 2027.1. Please review the Inventor 2027.1 What's New article here. For more information regarding how you may leverage the feature, and please review this page. Special thanks to everyone who cast a vote for it.

and so change the size of the points in the cloud to get a more dense point surface, instead of showing more points.
